Sydney Beach Maternity Photography

As a Sydney maternity photographer, I'm always asked where I think the best place is for our photoshoot. Without hesitation, I always say, the beach. Sydney has some of the most beautiful beaches in the world and I love taking advantage of this with maternity photography. Beach photography is my favourite for maternity and family photoshoots. There are so many wonderful beaches in Sydney, but I have been drawn to Coogee for some time now. I know its every nook and cranny by now. I was particularly excited for this session to try out my maternity dresses that I made for the shoot. As illustrated on my Facebook page, I've been in a creative bubble lately, making lots of maternity gowns and newborn props. Lincraft had a sale on material over the weekend, so I intend to make a couple of snug gowns, to show off the beautiful curves of the pregnant woman and the baby bump, and I've got some lace to try my hand at a robe.

This stunning maternity mumma-to-be was the perfect model for my new dresses, she couldn't look more beautiful and radiant. I hope you love these images as much as I do.

Beach maternity shoot | Sydney maternity photographer

How beautiful is this Mamma? I think everyone knows this now, my favourite location for maternity and family shoots is the beach. There are so many beautiful beaches in Sydney to choose from, from Balmoral to Coogee and lots in between. There's something about the beauty of the beach that compliments the beauty of the Mum to be. Or maybe it's the other way around? Either way, I just love beach maternity sessions and when you see these images, you'll see why. Beach Maternity Session | Eastern Suburbs Maternity Photographer

I had already photograped this beautiful Mumma-to-be, however, I had a few visions in my mind for a beach maternity session that I wanted to fulfill, so I asked Amanda if she would like to have a different type of session. Amanda is fun and loves to try new things so she met up with me at Coogee for our session. Each season, I like to shoot at a different beach. This season, I chose Coogee. It has great access and parking, which is perfect when I have a lot to carry. More importantly, I love the colours at Coogee, the rocks have beautiful warm colours in the rocks and deep greens scattered throughout the rocks too. This translates to beautiful imagery.

On the day of our shoot, there was a lot of seaweed. I was trying to scoop it away. I am sure I looked funny from behind trying to scoop it all up, but it really was a futile exercise. It was everywhere. So we embraced the seaweed as best we could. It does add colour and texture to the images, I think.

And I have to share a behind the scenes image from this shoot. Amanda's husband was a good sport (despite being unwell) and helped us manage the material in the wind. He was pivotal in getting these beautiful images.

Beautiful Momma-to-be | Hills Maternity Photographer

One of the things I love about my job is meeting new people. I must say, I have been blessed with lovely clients, and this couple were no exception. And this is one of the few sessions where I didn't get lost on the way! Yes, even with a sat nav, I manage to get lost going to most sessions. I do know the Hills area in Sydney quite well by now, but I was pleased when I managed to get (almost) to the house without getting lost. This stunning Mumma-to-be had some ideas for her session, and like many clients, she sent me a link to her pinterest board. I really love pinterest, it is a great way to collect ideas and for me to get a good feel for what images move my clients, so I can work on a common vision and deliver this.

Amanda, from Glamorous by Amanda, did a wonderful job with hair and make-up. And even the dog was washed and prep'd for our session.

I am so pleased with the images from our session, and I can't wait to meet the baby in January.

Beautiful Mamma-to-be | Sydney Maternity Photographer

This couple researched their photographer-to-be thoroughly...and I am glad they chose me. They had a two-fold vision for me: a couple of images they had in mind and then the rest of the session was mine to experiment. I must admit a slight amount of envy toward this gorgeous Mamma-to-be. You see, fluid retention and myself were well acquainted for all of my pregnancies. But this beautiful woman was all baby bump. I just know she will bounce back to her pre-baby weight in no time, in fact, I may have promised this during our session. She really was the epitome of glowing pregnant woman.

This image is my new favourite maternity image. She just looks stunning...

Though the rest of the gallery is beautiful too...I can't wait for the newborn photoshoot!

Gorgeous maternity model | Sydney Maternity Photographer

I had a shoot with a model who needed updated maternity images for her portfolio. Needless to say, she was absolutely stunning! On the day of the shoot, the clouds were dark. As the day progressed, the clouds became darker and darker, until they were charcoal grey. It started to rain as I unloaded the car and the interior space that we planned to use was dark.

Then...I discovered the courtyard. It was enclosed, to keep us dry but it had an opening that let in the light in the most beautiful way. I also shoot with a Nikon D700, and its capabilities in low light continually blow me away.

I love the resulting images. In fact, the first image in the series is probably my favourite of 2011. I love the directional light and neutral colours that accentuate her glowing skin and lovely baby bump. I particularly love it because I know what lighting obstacles we needed to overcome to get them.

Stunning Mum-to-be | Sydney maternity photographer

Pregnant women really are incredibly beautiful. Ironically, most women who contact me for maternity photos don't always feel great about how they look. They feel uncomfortable and round! I can relate, as I have been there myself as well. However, without exception, my clients are always happy that they had their photos taken and always look back at them with fondness and without a critical eye. This beautiful client was no exception. I am sure you will agree, she is actually a stunning Mum-to-be.
